S.O.S. Save our Sign

10 July 2000

Forwarded on behalf of the Peace Council.

Our cherished anti-nuclear sign near Wellington airport is in a bad state of disrepair and needs urgent refurbishment. The Wellington city council pledged when the sign was erected that it would maintain and keep it in a good state of repair. This has not been done. It needs an urgent paint job. It is not a good advertisement for nuclear free Wellington to thousands who pass by it every day.

We need groups and individuals to write to the Mayor asking him to see that the work is done. The Peace Council has been in touch with the Mayor but we need others to follow it up because nothing has been done. If he gets more letters we are sure he will move on this matter, after all, it isn't a big job.

The Mayor has been very supportive of our anti-nuclear stand in the past but he needs a little nudge on this one.

You can write to Mark Blumsky, Office of the Mayor, PO Box 2199, Town Hall, Wellington, or fax (04) 801 3033.

Barney Richards and John Urlich,
Peace Council of Aotearoa New Zealand Incorporated.
