Ngai Tahu Open Letter to all Members of Parliament

4 May 2004

Tena koe,

Re: Foreshore and Seabed Legislation

This week you will vote on the Foreshore and Seabed Bill. Your vote will affect every New Zealander.

The Government has completely undermined the rule of law in this country. Rather than respecting the role of the courts, the Government over rode the judicial process. This breaches universal human rights. No other sector of the comunity would be treated this way. As elected representatives your responsibility is to lead the country into the future - you cannot and should not create a future built on injustice.

We urge you to uphold the rule of law, respect human rights and vote against this legislation.

Nahaku noa, na
Mark Solomon,
Kaiwhakahaere,
Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu.
