PETITION FROM THE PUBLIC OF NEW ZEALAND TO THE GOVERNMENTS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND THE UNITED KINGDOM REGARDING EAST TIMOR

We, the undersigned, request that you bring your influence to bear on the United Nations Security Council, and in the wider international community, so that immediate UN intervention in East Timor occurs in order to prevent the slaughter of more people in East Timor. We suggest that it will be too late for the people of East Timor if we have to wait for approval from the Indonesian Government for immediate international intervention and assistance to be given. We ask you to act immediately to restore human rights, peace, and justice in East Timor. We add our voices to those from around the world calling for such action to save the people of our neighbour East Timor.
